2026 Featured Artist: Sharon Sudduth
Sharon Sudduth, a representational oil painter, dedicates considerable time to discovering the beauty of nature. Her fascination with flowers has taught her to pause and closely observe these delicate marvels. In doing so, she has seen things she wants everyone to notice. So, she paints large and up close in an attempt that the intricacies that fascinate her cannot be overlooked. This Kansas native now lives and works from her backyard studio in Enid, Oklahoma where she creates oil paintings using the “alla prima” or wet into wet method.
Sudduth, who is a self-taught artist, enjoys using oil paints because they allow her to be spontaneous while still achieving satisfying outcomes. Her distinct palette and technique create vibrant, lively paintings that radiate from the canvas. Her intuitive style is distinct and reflects her love for light, form and color which is seen most dramatically in her signature large scale flowers.
Her painting, featuring the iconic Prairie Village clock tower, overflows with an abundance of flowers. Many of the flowers were painted from photos she took of the stunning floral planters at The Shoppes, while exhibiting her work at past art fairs. Of course, the wispy sunflowers and hardy lantana reaching up to the big blue skies represent her fond connection with Kansas and the free-spirited and resilient people that call the Midwest home. She hopes the painting beckons you to step in, to savor the beauty or to relive heartfelt memories made there.
